What was your situation when you reached out to Soldier On?

My transition out of the military was very challenging. Having been deployed twice, those experiences alone were life-changing and now having to start over after my military service proved to be more difficult than I expected. At the time I had to swallow my pride and let go of my ego and started working with Soldier On to better my housing and financial situation.

Meet: Ricky Montgomery

A Veteran of the U.S. Army who increased his credit score over 100 points after just 15 months of working with the Soldier On Financial Counseling team.

I began working with my Financial Coach Jacob Merritt with MMI, immediately we created action plan to rebuild my credit. Jacob was able to help discover issues that were affecting my credit score at no fault of my own and assisting me on how to dispute these debts that were wrongfully reported. I treated our sessions like a military operation, using this mindset helped me see results, it was a relief now knowing what I was working for. Each month seeing my credit score increase was the confidence I needed, I continued to do my part by paying my bills monthly, over time what seemed like a financial disaster was becoming financial success.

What would you like to accomplish in the future? What are your long-term goals?

In January 2025 my credit increased by over 100 points in just 15 months. My goal today is to become a first time Veteran homeowner and to leave something behind for my 2 children. I also plan to complete my bachelor’s degree and graduate next year in May. This free program opened opportunities for my whole family, I would have never been able to discover or address my credit score issues on my own, having key insight from a professional financial coach gave me the peace of mind and direction for me to seek a better quality of life with just a few sessions. Any Veteran out there can easily make the same progress but simply trusting and not rushing the process.
