HOMES FOR VETERANS
PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT
MEET THE NEW HOMEOWNERS:
Melvin Bukszpan
What was your situation when you reached out to Soldier On?
After spending 10 months at Vet Haven North, my time there was ending, and I needed a stable place to continue my recovery journey. That's when I reached out to Soldier On's intake hotline. Joan Speranza helped me navigate the daunting paperwork and apply for housing at the Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Community.
SUCCESS STORY
Meet: Melvin Bukszpan
An Army veteran whose journey to homeownership is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of community.
Finding a home at Soldier On meant more than just a roof over my head. For me, it was about being in a supportive environment with fellow veterans who shared my values. We are a band of brothers and sisters, and we take care of each other. This sense of community was crucial in my recovery.
I received incredible support from the Soldier On staff, especially my dedicated case manager, Tracey Visalli, whose constant encouragement helped me set and achieve personal goals. While at Soldier On, I became a Peer Support Specialist, encouraging other veterans to stay on the right path. I will be proudly celebrating four years of sobriety on November 4, 2024!
Soldier On's David Ramirez played a crucial role in helping me achieve homeownership.
With David's support, along with the guidance of Mark McBride from MMI, I increased my credit score from 580 to 701, and in May of 2024 I closed on my new home!
How has your life improved since working with Soldier On?

I am committed to maintaining sobriety, improving my health, and strengthening my relationships with family. I dedicate my success to my sons, Aaron and Christopher, and my beloved granddaughter, Abigail, who have been my biggest supporters. I look forward to family vacations and creating memories together in my new home.
What are your long-term future goals?
